As part of measures to ensure round the clock business activities for its special vocational skills trainees, Edo State government has promised to make them major beneficiaries of the proposed 24-hour electricity supply in parts of the state.

The state government is already working with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to train 500 youths in this regard in the area of information communication technology (ICT), fashion design, pastry, welding and fabrication under the National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP).

As regards the electricity supply, Governor Godwin Obaseki said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed by Edo State Government and an Independent Power Project (IPP) to generate five megawatts of electricity.

He said the IPP had started construction, adding that in six months, some of the trainees would have become entrepreneurs and they would utilise the electricity running to boost their businesses and contribute their quota to the development of the state.

He noted that the administration’s dream for the state included having entrepreneurs and skilled people, who would be able to set up their own businesses and become employers of labour, thereby contributing to the development of the state.
