Oshonaike sad over botched Tunisia trip for juniors

Table tennis queen Funke Oshonaike is unhappy the country’s flag is not hoisted at the on-going 2017 International Table Tennis Federation African Junior Championships in Tunisia after lack of funds stopped Team Nigeria’s trip to the Northern African country.

The Ministry of Sports failed to release the funds for the team’s trip on time and the country has consequently lost the tickets for the World Junior Championships and 2018 Youth Olympic Games. Oshonaike, who had earlier organised a clinic and competition for the junior players through her foundation, said it was disheartening that the country denied the kids the opportunity to realise their dreams.

The African champion wrote on her Facebook account: “I got tired of complaining that was why I left my job, family to come home to give hope and smile to the talented kids in the country through the clinic why is it so hard for Nigeria to make the dream of all these children come true? Don’t they know that these kids are our future?

Why are some people killing talent and the future of our young ones? Above all, why am I not a multi-millionaire so that I can be able to take care of these future champions more without waiting for any ministry? For how long will Nigeria keep breaking my heart because of my love for my country? I’m totally hurt and heartbroken again.”
