Moses out as Chelsea host Burnley
  • Success on the card for Watford’s clash with Reds

Nigeria international Victor Moses had the best season of his career so far when he played a pivotal role as Chelsea won the English Premier League and will be keen to replicate that form as the Blues begin their title defence with a clash against Burnley today.

He is not expected to play in this game after bagging a red card in Chelsea’s FA Cup final defeat in the hands of Arsenal last May. Although he was allowed to play in the Comminty Shield last weekend, he’s been barred from the opening fixture of the new EPL season.

Moses who had spent the previous three seasons away at Liverpool, Stoke and West Ham, was expected to be farmed out again but new manager Antonio Conte kept faith with him and turned the Nigerian into one of the best wingbacks in England. He played more than 30 league matches and became a cog in title-winning Chelsea.

He has given a hint about his readiness to continue from where he left off last season when he scored the opening goal in the Community Sheild loss to Arsenal last Sunday and will hope to hit the ground running in Chelsea’s next week’s game.

If Isaac Success stays fit he can become one of the best youngsters in the EPL but incessant injuries have limited his potential. Success, who joined Watford from Granada last season, scored just one goal in 19 league appearances in the EPL in his first campaign but can make amends this term.

The Hornets will host Liverpool today (Saturday) and after a good run in pre-season the lad should play a part in this one. Competition for places in the front line has become fiercer at the Vicarage Road after the Hornets signed Brazilian Richarlison but Success should fight for his spot.
