Osinbajo meets PANDEF leaders in Aso Rock

A cting President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday met with stakeholders from the Niger Delta under the aegis of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) at the presidential villa, Abuja. The meeting came after the group gave the Federal Government, a November 1 deadline to meet its 16-point agenda as a condition to restore permanent peace in the region.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), which has initially rallied support for PANDEF, has pulled out its representation from the group over what it called irreconcilable differences. New Telegraph gathered that the meeting was considering steps taken so far by the Federal Government towards a permanent solution to the age-long crisis in the region . Last week, Presidency officials announced that Nigeria’s government would flag-off the first set of Modular Refineries domiciled mostly in the country’s Delta region, this month.

Osinbajo is expected to hold a groundbreaking event to signal the commencement of the first set of modular refineries after the scheduled meeting with the PANDEF, to discuss issues on the development of the Niger Delta. Those at the meeting included Chief Edwin Clark, Amayanabo of Brass, Alfred Diete-Spiff; Victor Attah, Don Etiebet, Timi Alaibe, Senator Bassey Ewa-Henshaw, Tony Uranta, Hosa Ogunbor, Godknows Igali, amongst others.
