Celebrated artist, Dejo Victor Akinlonu, popularly called Dejak, interacted with so many top art connoisseurs as well as clerics, each expressing strong views about his high artistic works.
He appeared to have touched the General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, more than others. Little wonder he described Dejak as the Prof Wole Soyinka of visual arts in Nigeria.
The fiery Pastor’s stance may have aroused from his deep conviction that Dejak’s artistic works have some literary connotations with Professor Wole Shoyinka’s. He noted that some of Dejak’s artistic creations really remind him of how the literary giant of Africa uses literature to make “socio economic cases for the down trodden of our society who may have suffered the corrupt effect of our leaders’ ineptitude administrations.
This revelation was made public by the celebrated artist recently at his arts garden at Mobolaji Johnson Way, near 7up Bottling Company, Ikeja during a session with newsmen who came to mark his birthday with him.
Dejak, who was full of thanks to God almighty for sparing his life till that moment, recalled that Pastor Bakare, an acknowledged arts connoisseur, gave him the license to use his name at will as one of those who believe in the sanctity of his art works and sculptural concern.
Dejak’s array of high standing artistic works which dots his monumental arts garden in Oregun, boasts of giant sizes of sculptures, some of which are also on display at the Oba Adeniji Adele Road, Lagos, where the eyo masquerade, statue of late Oba Adeniji Adele, and the bust of Late Alexandra Omolade Okoya Thomas, mounted at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. They are all eye catching creations, noted for their artistic legacies, which have been commanding attention of art connoisseurs and tourists respectively over the years.
