When you have young children to attend to round the clock, it is so easy for business to slip to the background for most mums. On the outside, you feel like a great mum, however, on the inside, you know there is much you would love to do in a typical day and that includes building your business and making money. Here are the five critical things that would help any mompreneur keep her business going while at home with young restless kids.
1 Unwavering focus
In running a business, you must have laser focus on who your target audience is and what your goals are in reaching this group of clients. If you try to appeal to everyone, you’ll ultimately appeal to no one. Get focused on who you are targeting and how you are targeting. So you still have some time and energy left to attend to the whining baby and the home as well.
Being organized is crucial. It’s essential to plan your meetings, product supplies and deliveries, your content and your social media posts, your marketing and communication efforts with your clients and future clients. The more organized and prepared you are, the less likely you will feel stressed and forget something or have any unforeseen surprises.
And don’t forget to organize the home too. Plan family meals ahead as well as shopping and outing. An organized business stems from an organized life.
3 Daily plan of action
Create a daily plan of action so that you have something tangible and realistic to achieve everyday. Your plan may include working on your computer, doing some paper work, calling and following up with clients, attending a scheduled meeting (if any), cleaning, cooking, and a little time for TV.
By setting just three goals to achieve each day, you can easily set yourself up for success. It is better to get the three things done and done well.
Thinking of all you have to do in a typical day might feel somewhat overwhelming and discouraging and it’s so easy to say, “What the heck?!” and grab the remote and stretch on your comfy sofa. Yea, that happens to all of us, it is still a big challenge for me.
Being disciplined in business is vital especially when you are a mompreneur. When working for yourself you might be tempted to put off something you don’t like to do, or something you fear to do, but it has to be done. The key is to stay disciplined, and do what must get done starting with the top priorities. Having a reward for yourself at the end of the day might motivate you to get off the sofa!
5. Stay in touch with reality
There is a reality check that when starting your own business especially from home with children running around and making so much noise you can hardly concentrate. Yet you must start. Will you have 1000 clients, followers, likes, leads on your list overnight? Most likely not. It will take lots of time and hard work to build your business, but don’t let that stop you. Dream about where you want to go with your business but stay connected to reality. Consider how you’re going to get there, and keep making adjustments where and when necessary.
