Community leader tasks FCT residents on patriotism

In an effort to change the prevailing nonchalant attitude to nation building, and also revive the spirit of patriotism and selfless service to humanity, a community leader, Chief Ike Ohasi, has tasked Imo State indigenes resident in the Federal Capital Territory, to always be ready to make sacrifices and contribute meaningfully to the development of their host community and the country at large.Ohasi, who is the President General of Imo Community in Abuja ( ICA) gave the charge when a delegation of the Union paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

While stressing the need for peaceful co-existence in a multi-ethnic society like Nigeria, he encouraged his fellow Imo citizens to imbibe the spirit of peace and hard work, as that were some of the necessary ingredients required for building a viable economy.

He affirmed that patriotism requires that every citizen respects the law of the land, wherever one is found. While encouraging them to always involve God in their dealings, he also urged them to be supportive of the government of the day. He said:”Continue to involve God in your dealings and also to be law abiding and supportive to the government. I pray and believe that this 2018 will be great to all of us.”

He further advised them to remain good ambassadors of the state, and always eschew anything that is capable of misrepresenting their home state, while they also think of how to contribute to the economic development of the state and the country.

According to him, Imo indigenes in the Diaspora should always remember that it is better to engage the government through constructive criticism, than confrontational attitude that would derogate the peace required for even development. “I urge you not to relent in your efforts towards giving the government constructive criticism as it will help in no small measure in building the nation”, he said.
