Students of the Nigeria Tulip International College (NTIC) in Abuja have been admonished to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in their undertakings with one another in order to promote friendship among them and others in the society.
A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Umar Na ‘Abba, gave the admonition while speaking at the maiden inter-house sports competition of the school held in Abuja.
According to Na’Abba, sports promotes unity and friendship, adding that children should engage in it in view of its many benefits to humanity. He advised the students to always display the spirit of sportsmanship whether they were on the winning or the losing side at the end of any sporting event.
Represented by the vice chairman, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of NTIC, Ambassador Christy Mbonu, Na’Abba, who is the PTA Chairman of the school, called on sports authority to turn to grassroots sports to discover future talent.
He added that such talents discovered should be nurtured and groomed well for them to represent Nigeria well in international sporting competitions in the near future.
Tagged ‘Olympic Games’ for the girls’ section of the school, students of the school participated in events like march past, shot put, high jump, long jump and athletics, as well as invitational relay, at the highly glamorous competition, which attracted important personalities from all walks of life.
At the end of the highly competed event, Red House, which dominated most of the games at the competition, emerged overall winner with 402 points. Green, Blue and Purple Houses came second, third and fourth with 355, 321 and 285 points respectively in that order.
The highlights of the event are musical display by the men of the Nigerian Army and Police, cultural display, horse race and karate skills, which were presented to the delight of all the guests.
