NIMASA’s $9m helicopter rots at naval station

Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA)’s $9million helicopter is rotting away at the Nigerian Navy Air Station, Ojo in Lagos due to lack of maintenance.

It was learnt that repair work on the Augusta AW 139 helicopter was suspended for over three years following reluctance by the agency to procure necessary equipment for the repair work.

The helicopter, which was purchased in 2008, was procured to secure the country’s maritime domain.

Efforts to speak with the agency’s Deputy Director, Public Relations, Isichei Osamgbi, proved abortive as his lines were not responding as at the time the calls were made.

A source at the agency said Osamgbi was in Abuja for the conference of Association of Heads of African Maritime Administration (AAMA).
