Court jails banker seven years for N20m fraud

Edo State High Court, sitting in Benin, yesterday sentenced one Mrs Gloria Ogbeide to seven years imprisonment for allegedly defrauding a customer, Mr and Mrs. Mikano Kadiri of the sum of N20 million

The suit with No B/ CD/32C/2016, was between the State Vs Gloria Ogbeide.

The defendant, Mrs. Ogbeide, before now was a staff of Union Bank, Airport Road branch, Benin. She was convicted on a two-count charge under section 1(1)(c) of Advanced Fee Fraud and other related offences of the law of the federation.

Ogbeide, who was an accounting officer to Kadiri, a former Special Adviser to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, had at different occasions defrauded his client and his wife, Mrs. Saliu Kadiri of the sum of N15m illion and N5million respectively. Justice Efe Ikpomwonba in his judgment found the accused guilty of both count charges. He therefore slammed a fourteen-year imprisonment on her, which would to run concurrently, without an option of fine.
