West Africa’s largest data centre operator, MDXi has announced plans to raise investment towards boosting the capacity of its data centre facility located in Nigeria by over 20 per cent.
From an investment profile of N10.7 billion so far invested by the company since it started the phase one of its operation in Nigeria in 2015, it has said the phase two of the facility will gulp additional N2.5 billion this year.
The fresh investment, targeted at enhancing and raising MDXi’s capacity in local data hosting from 300 to 600 racks, will raise the company’s investment by well over 20 per cent.
This is just as MDXi hoped to build data centre facilities in Sagamu, Ogun State, Accra, Code D’Ivoire and Senegal to widen its footprints as a West Africa’s largest full-scale data centre provider offering colocation, wholesale deployments, interconnection and cloud services.
Speaking on the new investment and expansion plans for the company during a recent facility tour of the NDXi’s data centre facilities located in Lekki axis of Lagos,” the company’s General Manager, Mr Gbenga Adegbiji, said : “The need for expansion was based on customer’s demand, having occupied almost all the available space left in the existing 300 rack space that was built in 2015, during the first phase construction of our data centre located here in Lekki axis of Lagos.”
According to Adegbiji, since 2015 when MDXi data centre was launched, the management had spent a total of $35 million, estimated at N10.7 billion in current naira valuation, the company has sunk into building capacity in the last five years to create a world-class data service centre.
Meanwhile, Adegbiji, in a passionate message to the Federal Government, said the time had come for the government to make stronger policies to ensure that private sector and organs of state host very important critical national data for security and economic reasons.
