Kwara mourns ex-Chief Judge, Yusuf

A former Chief Judge of Kwara State and former President, Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressives Union (IEDPU), Justice Saka Yusuf is dead.

The late Yusuf died on Monday night. He was 85. His remains were yesterday interred at his GRA, Ilorin residence in accordance with Islamic rites. At the interment to pay their last respects to the legal icon, were the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Isiaka Gold, who represented Governor AbdulFattah Ahmed; the Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Hon. Ali Ahmad; the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Sulaiman Kawu; the state Grand Kadi, Justice Ola AbdulKadir; a former Grand Kadi, Justice AbdulMutalib Ambali; the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Prof. Abdul- Rasheed Na’ Allah.

Other dignitaries included the IEDPU President, Ambassador Sheikh AbdulAzeez; his predecessor, Alhaji AbdulHamid Adi and the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Ishola Balogun-Fulani.

The Janazah prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Mohammed Bashir Salihu, who was supported by other notable cleric from Ilorin Emirate. In their separate condolence messages, the governor; the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari; National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi; and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, however, expressed shock over the death of the late Justice. On his part, the governor, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Wahab Oba, said: “The late Justice Yusuf contributed his quota to the state and humanity as a Chief Judge of the state and former National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union.

No doubt, the exit of this legal icon will be sorely missed by his family in particular and the state in general,” they said. The Emir of Ilorin described the deceased as “a rare gem and compassionate jurist,” whose contributions to the development of the Ilorin Emirate is unquantifiable, while Abdullahi said the people of Kwara State have lost a committed son of the Ilorin Emirate, who during his lifetime played significant roles in ensuring the unity, growth and development of the Emirate and the state at large.
