NFF dangles World Cup spot before Lookman

The Nigeria Football Federation has offered RB Leipzig forward Ademola Lookman a spot in the Super Eagles squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup if he completes his switch of allegiance to the country. A German news outfit Welt reported on Thursday that the England youth international would meet with top officials of the NFF over a potential switch of allegiance to Nigeria very soon. The player had first met with Nigerian officials last year but he begged for more time to consider the proposal as he was keen on featuring for England’s U-20 team that won the 2017 World Cup.


The news outlet reported that the NFF was keen to revive the discussion and had already promised the player he would be considered for Russia 2018 if he makes the move. The Everton player got his loan spell in the Bundesliga off to a flying start when he netted the winner on his debut by scoring the lone goal for RB Leipzig against Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend. According to source, A decision is not expected to come swiftly but there are indication that he is seriously considering the option of playing for Nigeria even though he still fancies his chance with the senior squad
