Rivers warns communities against boundary clashes

The Rivers State g ove r nment yesterday urged neighbouring communities in the state to live peacefully rather than embark on clashes. It, however, warned that it would not tolerate any form of inter-communal hostilities in the state. It also declared that the it eould deal decisively with anybody fomenting trouble no matter how highly placed.

The state Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, issued the warning at the Government House, Port Harcourt during a stakeholders’ meeting between the Rivers State Boundary Commission and representatives of Ifoko and Tema communities in Asari Toru Local Government Area at the Government House, Port Harcourt. She said the meeting became necessary because threats of hostilities between both communities had come to the notice of the state government.

Baniso said“It is important for us to invite you and find out your grouses because any form of threat between our communities is totally unacceptable to the Nyesom Wike-led government She said the state government had been able to maintain peace across the 23 council areas “because peace is crucial to our development, progress, and prosperity.” The deputy governor said that the state boundary commission was emboldened by an Act of Law to address and proffer solutions to boundary disputes.
