The industrial skills of students of the Federal College of Education (FCE Technical), Umunze, Anambra State have been sharpened as part of preparation ahead of their Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) programme. The industrial training orientation was organised in preparation for their participation in the scheme by Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme Unit of the college in collaboration with the Awka Zonal Office of Industrial Training Fund (ITF). This was as the SIWES Coordinator in the college, Mr. Paschal Okafor, urged the students to acquire useful industrial skills during the period, saying that the SIWES was established by the Federal Government to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

While explaining further that the scheme was strategically designed to prepare and expose students to industrial techniques, Okafor, however, added that the success of the scheme depends largely on coordinated efforts of the government, Ministries of Industry and Education, ITF, management of tertiary institutions and employers.

Towards this end, he sought efficient and effective supervisory system of the scheme, saying such would go a long way in boosting qualitative manpower productivity. Addressing the students, ITF Area Manager, Mrs. Chinwe Opara, commended the students for turning out in their large number to attend the orientation, noting that it was a sign that the students were ready to learn.
