Murder: APC chair resumes, commends Fayose

Three years after his incarceration over an alleged murder, Chairman, Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Jide Awe, yesterday resumed office. Besides, Awe, who expressed gratitude to Governor Ayodele Fayose for facilitating his acquittal, also commended the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) for not applying the period of his detention to impeach him.

Awe, was last week discharged and acquitted by the state High Court over an alleged murder of Mrs Julianah Adewumi and Mr Ayo Jeje in Erijiyan Ekiti, in Ekiti West Local Government shortly before the 2014 governorship election. The late Adewumi, mother of the Deputy Speaker, Ekiti state assembly, Hon. Segun Adewumi, was attacked in the town amidst heavy rumour that she, alongside other members of her family, were planning to cross to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the APC.

However, at a reception organised for him at the party’s secretariat in Ajilosun area of Ado Ekiti, state capital, Awe thanked the party for being a pillar of support for him during his travail and tolerating him. Awe said: “It was after the state investigated the matter that they knew I had no hand. How could a High chief like me carry gun and kill my own subjects? This is unheard of and I will never be part of such.

“The executive members can read the constitution of our party and passed a vote of no confidence in me, but they didn’t do this. “With this, you have spurred me into action to be able to do more. “The people of Ekiti are yearning for APC. They have realized that the stomach infrastructure promised them was no longer forthcoming, so we must work hard and win the coming election.
