Fire outbreak at CBN headquarters in Abuja (UPDATED)

There was panic yesterday evening at the premises of Central Bank Headquarters located in Central Business District (CBD) following an outbreak of fire said emanated from generator house.

Our correspondent learnt the fire started some few minutes past six in the evening but was promptly put out by men from the Federal Capital Fire Service who were drafted to the scene.

A witnessed told our correspondent that two fire-fighting trucks belonging to Julius Berger were brought in for reinforcement.

Assistant Comptroller FFS, Bello Atayin confirmed the fire incident. He said that the fire started at the generator house.

He attributed the fire incident to a technical fault at the generator house, adding that the service was quick in putting it out before it got out of control.

“The fire incident started at the generator house on the west side of the building and we were alerted.
“It was a minor fire incident and it had been put under control,” he said.

However, the CBN has dismissed the fire incident, explaining that what was mistook as fire outbreak was “a pall of exhaust from the generator house far away from the building.”
