NFF splashes $.25m on chartered flight for DR Congo

Eagles to meet Buhari May 29


The chartered flight that will convey the DR Congo’s contingent to the country for a friendly against the Super Eagles will cost the Nigeria Football Federation about $250,000.


The match is scheduled to take place on May 28 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and our correspondent learnt that the Congolese would not be paid any appearance fee by the NFF but theNigeria Football authorities would take care of the Congoles travelling and accommodation . also confirmed that the cash for the aircraft would be provided by the hosts state, Rivers The DRC team are due in Port Harcourt on May 25, three days before the match against World Cupbound Super Eagles.


Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will pay a courtesy visit on President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on May 29.


The team’s spokesman Toyin Ibitoye on Monday revealed the timetable of the squad leading up to Russia 2018, stating that they are also scheduled to depart their Austrian training camp June 11 for the World Cup in Russia. The national team will open training camp on May 22 in Uyo before a friendly against DR Congo in Port Harcourt on May 28.


After their Presidential visit, they will fly out to London for a high-profile World Cup warm-up against England on June 2. Coach Gernot Rohr is expected to announce his final 23-man squad for the World Cup not later than June 4.


The Eagles will then face Czech Republic in a final test game on June 6 in Austria They will depart for Russia on June 11, five days before their opening Group D match against Croatia.
