APC convention: Oshiomhole’s victory assured, says Senator Adeola

Ahead of today’s national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the senator representing Lagos West, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has given victory to a former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, in the race for the chairmanship position.
Speaking with Saturday Telegraph in Abuja, the senator who refused to comment on his Ogun State governorship ambition, commended the outgoing executive of the party for a successful tenure.

“Let’s thank God for this current and outgoing National Working Committee of the party. Our expectation is very high, we expect it will be a hitch free convention.
Maintaining that the zoning arrangement, which had been working for the party, would be adhered to, Adeola said the APC is a party based on principle and solid foundation.

“The leadership and all of us are trying to ensure that the zoning system which we employed the last time still exist so that every zone can have a representative, both in the Exco and NWC of the party.

“We are working round the clock to ensure that it takes place and also ensure that all delegates have the option of voting whoever should be in the incoming EXCO and NWC. So, it is freedom of expression given the opportunity to choose a new EXCO.”

Insisting on Oshiomole choice, Adeola said there is no strong opposition that can change the permutation.
“We do not see any strong opposition. As far as we are concerned, Oshiomhole, the incoming chairman and outgoing, Oyegun, are from Edo State. We are looking forward to Oshiomole emerging as the victor but the most important thing is that at the end of the day, we have a successful convention.
“We want Oshiomhole to be the next chairman, we are praying and hoping that Oshiomole will emerge victorious,” he said.

The senator also spoke on the perceived division among Lagos delegates, assuring that the state would be arriving the convention with a united front.
“We are coming into the convention as a united, strong and indivisible force as ever. We know that attempts were made by some disgruntled elements who went to court and tried to stop Lagos delegation from coming but they failed.

“You can see the judgment delivered by Justice Binta Nyako on Wednesday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should recognise the Lagos delegation. So there is no division in Lagos.

“We remain steadfast because the Lagos APC remains one of the back bones of the party and there is nothing that can divide us along any line. We remain indivisible, strong and united front.”

Adeola, however, said the outcome of the convention, irrespective of the winner, will not negatively affect the chances of President Buhari in the 2019 election.

“The scorecard of the Buhari administration is positive, a lot of innovative ideas have been seen in the last three years. Though there is a shortcoming but we will overcome it, because the rot of 16 years cannot be solved in three years.

“Despite the shortcomings of the administration, it will not affect the re-election of Buhari in 2019. I see a very formidable and strong APC delivering Buhari in 2019.”
