The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disclosed that 132 companies have scaled the technical bidding process for the execution of its capital projects in the 2018 fiscal year.
The Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. S. Z. Kazaure, stated this at the bus opening process held at the Conference Hall of the National Headquarters, Yakubu Gowon House, Abuja.
Director of Procurement of the Corps, Mr Yakubu Jok, said the NYSC would always ensure transparency and due process in the award of contracts. According to Jok, the NYSC has maintained a tradition of providing a level playing ground for all contractors to participate in the process. The contracts were in 33 lots and items bided for included trucks, ambulances, utility vans, boreholes and renovation of some orientation camps among others.
Nine applications were returned for late entry in accordance with the Public Procurement Act.
Jok noted that the NYSC was ready to partner with members of the public but would not undermine standards for any reasons. He said that neither the DG nor any other top official of the corps had ever interfered with the bidding process or award of contracts.
He also noted that after the bidding process, a competent Evaluation Committee would painstakingly scrutinize the documents before sending them to the regulators for confirmation.
Secretary, NYSC Tenders Board, Abubakar Bawa, noted that all late submissions would be returned in line with the Public Procurement Act, noting that the rejection of the nine entries was in line with due process.
He urged contractors to subsequently return their proposals in time as enough time was given for that purpose.
The technical bid process was interactive with contributions from observers, contractors and the regulatory body, the Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP).
A representative of the BPP, who did not give his name, agreed that the bid was substantially transparent.
