PDP youths berate Secondus over Kwara defectors

Aggrieved youth members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State yesterday lambasted the national leadership of the party for allegedly undermining the constitution of the party in its bid to welcome defectors.

The youths, operating under the aegis of Kwara Strategic Alliance (KSA) in the PDP, at a news conference in Ilorin, the state capital particularly berated the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus for working to bring members of the Reformed All Progressive Congress (R-APC) in the state without recourse to the PDP State working committee (SWC) in Kwara.

They warned that if the trend continues it might be an indication that the party under Secondus cannot be trusted with power. It would be recalled that Secondus was in Ilorin twice last week ostensibly to commiserate with National Leader of the now defunct New PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje on the death of his mother and to be part of the eighth-day Firdau prayers for the deceased. However, the second visit on Wednesday was to coordinate a meeting of PDP leaders with Senate President Bukola Saraki and some serving governors.

The meeting took place after the Firdau prayers but both visits were allegedly without the knowledge of the PDP Chairman in the state, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo and his team.

Coordinator of KSA, Ibrahim Sheriff while condemning the development said his group is a collection of youths and youth mobilizers across the 16 local governments of the state, who have come together to raise their voices “against some abnormalities looming in our great party which is capable of absolutely killing the high spirit we’ve used to take the party thus far in Kwara state and in fact, render PDP politically valueless in the face of voters from Kwara state if not swiftly addressed.”

He said further: “Instead of Prince Uche Secondusled administration of the party to bring back political morality and social sanity to the PDP to knock out her challenges, the Chairman is unfortunately wooing virtually all political figures in Nigeria with the highest corruption perception index.

“Why is the National Working Committee of PDP acting against its own constitution and principles just to please an inconsistent man and his cohorts? Is this not an indication that the party is positioning itself as a lawless and immoral one, with no iota of respect for its own members and constitution?

“If this is done to the whole structure of PDP in Kwara State that has given it’s all to the party, it is a pointer that PDP under Prince Secondus will never be grateful to Nigerians if the party is trusted with their support and votes.

“It is on this note that we are registering our protest as faithful members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state, that we will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the constitution and membership of the party in the state because of a new entrant.
