571 Lagos, Sokoto pilgrims return

Lagos and Sokoto states have announced the arrival of 571 batch-A pilgrims after spending close to one month in the holy cities of Makkah and Medina. The first batch of 259 Sokoto pilgrims from Gada local government area of the Sokoto state arrived the Sultan Abubakar International Airport Sokoto at about 12:30 pm on Monday while the first batch of 312 out of the 2,000 Lagos State pilgrims arrived Muritala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday, aboard Medview Airline Airbus 777.

The Commissioner for Home Affairs cum Lagos State Amir ul Hajj, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef declared that this is the first time Lagos pilgrims will spend less than 30 days in Saudi Arabia for the Hajj exercise. “It is a wonderful development that Lagos pilgrims on the first flight have spent 28 days for this holy pilgrimage. We are happy and hope it will continue,” he said, expressing joy over the success of the hajj exercise and the safety of all the pilgrims throughout the operation.

“I am particularly grateful to Allah for giving the officials and the pilgrims the grace to cooperate with one another for the success of this year Hajj operation”. Commending the pilgrims for conducting themselves well, Abdul Lateef added that the management of the Hajj operation kept a listening ear with regard to the Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode’s advice to treat pilgrims with utmost respect. He, however, promised to announce other flight schedules as soon as the Board management is informed.
