Stakeholders have spoken about the need to chart a new course for classroom learning in modern times in order to achieve the implementation of innovative classroom practices for sustainable development in education. This was part of the outcome of a conference on implementation of innovative classroom practices for sustainable development in education, which took place at Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
This position was contained in a communique issued at the end of the eighth annual Conference of the School of Education signed by the Chairman and the Secretary of the Conference Committee, Dr. Olugbenga Ajere and Dr. James Alabi Abidoye respectively. According to the organisers, the aim of the conference is “to bring to public domain unprecedented change mantra in classroom practices to accommodate the enormity of diverse learners’ needs and potentials for the generation of rational recipe for classroom creativity in a multi-cultural global human society for existential relevance of educators and learners in organisation and industries across the world.” The stakeholders, however, hinted that they realised that teaching and learning platform had gone beyond knowledge and skill transmission by the teacher within the confines of the classroom where absolute knowledge and skills were disseminated for learners’ acquisition.
The conference noted that professionals and beneficiaries of education enterprise should blend with each other for the achievement of the ultimate goals in this era of massive generation of new ideas and orientation in all professional fields. This was hinged on the transitory nature of education in the modern world reflecting diverse constant alterations in its structure and practices.
