Ambode’s commissioner, Abdulateef, emerges as Lagos Man of The Year


Residents of Lagos State have elected the Commissioner for Home Affairs in the state, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Mobolaji Abdul Lateef as the 2018 Lagos Man of the Year.

The commissioner, who emerged the winner of the Lagos Man of the Year (LASMAYA) Award by 76.85 per cent of the total votes, polled 41, 415 votes of the 53, 893 of the total valid votes cast which was organised and collated by Centre for Policy Development and Political Studies.

The merging of his victory was described as a feat said to be unprecedented in the history of the award. He was said to be the most outstanding public servant in the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration, defeating other senior public servants and captains of industry in the state.

While expressing his gratitude to Almighty God, he dedicated the Award to God, to all Lagosians and supporters worldwide.

The commissioner expressed his gratitude to all supporters and well- wishers in Lagos, Nigeria and abroad, saying, “We are all winners together. “

Some residents also affirmed that he had won many awards for Lagos, especially in Muslim and Christian pilgrim operations, expressing their wish that he continues to be of exemplary conducts and strive harder in a mission to achieve a better society.


The 2018 Award is the Tenth Edition of LASMAYA, which started in 2008, as there was no Award in 2010.

The outcomes of this year 2018 Edition are unprecedented in every respect. The highest number of participation before 2018 was 16, 181, in the year 2017, which was won by Dr. Adebola Ismail Akindele with a total vote of 3, 324.

The former Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Adefulire won the Award in 2009 with a vote of 6, 325, the highest scored by individual nominee before 2018.

Voting for this year Edition commenced at 7.a.m on Monday, September 3, 2019 and closed at 11:59pm on Sunday September 9. 2018. Voting was done by SMS to 07085850077.

Many people who spoke at separate interviews since the release of the result confirmed that the winner of this year Edition, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef, popularly known and fondly called ‘Honorable Yepe’ was indeed deserving of the Award.

They described Dr. Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef as a man of the people, who “loves and respects all persons irrespective of social status, religion, age, ethnic, gender, and other attributes.”
