Sylvanus Ose Igbogbo

The name Sylvanus Igbogbo is no longer new to home-based politicians in Edo State, especially in Esan land. Those who know the man from Ekpon in Igueben Local Government Area, says that he prides himself as someone who schooled abroad and had four different degrees in economics, management, finance and public administration. The former interim chairman of Igueben Local Government Area, was head of Godwin Obaseki campaign group in Edo Central. The success story of Governor Godwin Obaseki cannot be written without him being mentioned. He is a grassroot politician known for his magnanimity. He is not banking on any godfather to be able to scale through, he believes that his track records in Esan land will earn him the senatorial ticket; hence he is contesting for the position. Igbogbo contested against Justin Okonoboh in the 2015 House of Assembly in Edo State and lost with just seven votes.

Hon. John Inegbedion

John Inegbedion is the present commissioner for Finance, popularly known as ‘Only me day’. He was for eight years, the Commissioner for Finance under the Oshiomhole administration. He is arguably the longest serving commissioner in the history of Edo State. Apart from his own strength, Inegbedion will also be banking on the support his siblings; his sister is the Vice Chairman of Igeuben Local Government Council and his brother is the immediate past Special Adviser to Obaseki, now the Secretary to the Local Government. Though some people in the area are not too comfortable with the arrangement where government business is seen as a family affair, others argued that he is a financial expert that has brought his experience to bear on the state. Having plied his trade in Lagos, he was said to have been handed over to the then comrade governor by a supposed godfather. Inegbedion thinks he is the best candidate to fly the party’s flag but may not be enjoying 100 per cent support from his people because some youths and party leaders do not agree with him as they accuse him of being arrogant. But it is almost certain that he is the anointed candidate. Looking at it critically, there are other view who beieve that one may not be far from the truth if it is said that the government is possibly looking for a way to push him out of the system, since the general opinion is that he was forced on the present government. But some people in Esan are kicking against his nomination arguing that Inegbedion has never contested any elective position but the man in the eye of the storm is ready for his first baptism of fire.

Barrister Monday Eboigbe

Monday Eboigbe is a practising lawyer known by his people for his articulate and discipline nature. The top member of the APC is a grassroot politician, who is conversant with Esan and Edo State affairs and always keen in the development of the less privilege but some people believe that he is not too vast in politics. He is no doubt very determined to represent the people of Esan at the upper house but as a lawyer, many of his followers see him as a capable alternative judging by his background. Though there are other aspirants who had earlier shown interest in the race, but on hearing the amount for the purchase of nomination form, some of them are beginning to think twice. The battle is really between the two aspirants from Igueben. Presently, Clifford Odia is the senator representing the zone and he is of the PDP but it is no going to be business as usual as Oshiomhole has vowed to get the PDP out of the race.
