The negotiation between the national leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and a section of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State that started on August 3, 2018, ended Sunday night with Senator Osita Izunaso, the immediate past National Organizing Secretary of APC and Senator Ifeanyi Araraume dumping the ruling party for APGA.
The final meeting, which commenced about 3p.m. on Sunday, at the APGA National Headquarters in Abuja was presided over by the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye, who assured the new entrants of a level playing field.
Key members of the Imo APC that participated in the negotiation were Ararume, Izunaso, Prince Ford Ozumba, Chief Elvis Agukwe and Chief Okey Ikoro.
Mr. Emeka Nzeribe, a top aide to Izunaso who confirmed their defection to APGA, noted that the negotiations were extensive and bordered on intra-party democracy.
“If we had a level playing ground in APC, there would have been no need to leave the party for APGA. All we wanted was fairness and justice in line with democratic tenets,” he said.
The Director General of Araraume’s campaign organization, Chief Okey Ikoro, while responding on what concessions they secured before defecting to APGA, said: “We are now in APGA and our movement to APGA is not about concessions. All we asked for was a level playing ground and that is what we got.”
