Cleric lauds Obi’s partnership with the church

A cleric and Coordinator, Health Services of Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Basil Ekwenibe, yesterday lauded the contribution of former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, to the church and state.

The former governor said he was always at peace with himself whenever he visited those institutions that partnered with the state government during his tenure as the governor. Obi spoke during his visit to School of Nursing of St. Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha.

The former governor, who paid an unscheduled and private visit to the school, thanked the church for her efforts at complementing the health needs of the state.

In his remarks at the occasion, Ekwenibe, who said it was just that morning that the former governor called him on phone that he was visiting him privately, said the former governor was always in support of what the archdiocese was doing in the health sector, apologised for making it a public visit, saying he wanted ‘students of the institution to listen to the former governor’s words of wisdom.”

Recalling Obi’s glorious era as governor and his collaboration with the church through the able inspiration of Archbishop Valerian Okeke, especially in education and health, Ekwenibe enumerated what Obi did for the School of Nursing, including support for the construction of the building housing it, construction of doctors’ quarters, the donation of a bus to the school and cash grants. He also recalled two live ambulances the hospital got during Obi’s tenure as governor.

The high point of the visit was the presentation by Mr. Peter Obi of a cheque of N1 million as his continued support to the school.
