Don’t look back, Onigbinde tells Eagles

Former Nigeria coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, has charged the Super Eagles to keep the momentum following last weekend’s 3-0 win over Seychelles in a 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The win against the East Africans in Victoria ensured Nigeria move within a point of Libya and South Africa who battled to a goalless draw in Johannesburg.

Onigbibnde commended the Eagles for getting a win which he said was crucial to the team’s aspiration of getting a place at the tournament billed for Cameroun next year.

“I congratulate the team for getting the win which was a crucial one considering the fact that we started the qualification process on a poor note. The players were professional in their approach and that is why they never looked to be in danger at any point of the match.

“What is expected of them now is to take it from here and make sure that they get wins in their four remaining matches which is quite possible.”

Onigbinde said although Seychelles was not a big test for the team, the victory did not come on a platter of gold.

“The weather condition was not favourable as it was very hot. The pitch was not equally good for our players because it was a synthetic grass which is not the best to play on but they still managed to get a result which is the hallmark of a good team,” he said

Onigbinde submitted that the team must have learnt their lesson and would not repeat the kind of mistake committed against South Africa which puts them in great danger heading to last weekend’s match.

“I don’t see them repeating the kind of mistake like they did against South Africa. They have restored their confidence and they now seem unstoppable,” said the 80-year-old two-time coach of Nigeria.
