I don’t have up to N20m in my account, says el-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday said he didn’t have up to N20 million in his account to purchase the Nomination and Expression of Interest forms to pursue his second term ambition in the 2019 general election.

This as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and other groups in Kaduna presented to Governor Nasir El-Rufai the governorship nomination form bought for him to re-contest the 2019 election.

The other groups are the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Sheikh Gumi Market Association, Association of Cattle Sellers, Petroleum Tanker Drivers, and ‘Kungiyar Katsinawa da Daurawa mazauna’ Kaduna.

This was even as El-Rufai declared his interest to seek re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Receiving the head of the delegation, Alhaji Abbas Likoro and some of the representatives at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna yesterday, El-Rufai disclosed that “this was the most pleasant surprise of my life.”

The governor also thanked them for the gesture   revealing that the money is his account was not up to N20 million needed for the form.

The governor said: “When the party fixed the money for form, I could remember that during the meeting, the President was the first person to raise his hands and said he does not have N50 million. ”In fact, we, the governors started discussing on how we will raise the money for Mr President. We said each governor will contribute N2million each.

And we travelled to China and it was in China I told the President that some group have purchased the form for you. So who will buy my own for me? “I don’t have N20million also to buy my form. The money I have in the bank is not close to that amount. I have only one account. If I sell my house, will I be able to raise that amount? “he asked.

El-Rufai however told the delegation that he had accepted the nomination form in good faith and would redouble his efforts in improving the lives of the citizens of the state.

He also re-assured the delegation that he would continue to ensure that whoever is living in the state irrespec  tive of his religion and tribal inclinations gets justice.

The governor said he was committed to improving the physical infrastructure he has started and will continue “to build roads, assist our farmers, as well as provide quality health care service in our rural areas”. Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Abbas Likoro, said they were in Government House to plead with El-Rufai to re-contest.

He said his group IPMAN, PTD, NARTO, Traders of Sheikh Mahmud Gummi Market and The Katsina and Daura People’s Association all living in Kaduna decided to purchase his party’s nomination form for his because they have seen in him a leader who had done well since his assumption of office and deserves a second term
