Kebbi, RRIN collaborate on Gum Arabic plantation



As part of efforts to diversify the agricultural sector of the state, Kebbi State government yesterday said it was collaborating with the Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria (RRIN) in its Gum Arabic sub-station in Gashuwa to nurse improved Gum Arabic seedlings for distribution to farmers across the state.

Indeed more than 80,000 seedlings had been raised at the Argungu nursery and were now ready for planting across the state.

Disclosing this yesterday a National Agro Commodity Consultant, Dr. Usman Hassan, said the collaboration with RRIN was an added boost to the diversification push by the Atiku Bagudu administration in the state.

Hassan, who also led a team of commodity associations to the Ministry of Agriculture, acknowledged the attention being given to some commodities by the state government that included castor seeds, kernef, sweet potatoes and soya beans, describing such as apt and timely.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Agriculture, Attahiru Maccido, assured the people of the state of government’s readiness to support all commodity associations in promoting massive production, value addition and export marketing.

He confirmed that Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was in constant touch with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in pushing for greater participation of the state in commodity value chain development, including castor and other bio-fuel produce.
