The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba AbdulKabiru Shotobi, and his counterpart in Imota, Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare yesterday called on politicians in Lagos State to invest massively in the educational infrastructure to boost the state’s educational sector.
This was even as the lawmaker representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Gbenga Ashafa unveiled another state of the-of-the-art ICT center in Imota and the blocks of Classrooms at St Johns Anglican School Imota, Ikorodu.
Speaking at the unveiling of the facilities, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Shotobi described investment in the educational facilities as investment into the future, saying politicians who build education infrastructure in any community genuinely want progress and development of such community.
The monarch, who urged other politicians in the state to focus more on development of human capital, said that the only way to go in developing the nation is to contribute to the enhancement of educational standard through infrastructure such as classrooms and ICT centres.
On his part, the Imota monarch, Oba Bakare said establishment of ICT centre demonstrated the global advancement in the educational needs of the people of the rural community. He added that with the centre, the youths and as well as the pupils would have access to computer literacy irrespective of their location.
In his address, Ashafa described the project as demonstration his passion for educating the youth through technology in line with the global best practice.
He said: “Education is priceless, but what is even more inestimable is handing over a valuable skill set, which is relevant to the development of the incumbent young generation. A skill set that can distinguish them and set them apart for greater glory than ours”.
“To this end, I am convinced that we must continue to provide a connecting pivot between our drive to create a brighter for our younger generation and their knowledge base. I beleive that Ikorodu can and will be transformed in no distant future. To achieve this feat, the young people of Ikorodu can and must begin to strive to be the creative heart of Lagos East.
“Therefore, I once again commit to you a responsibility to know more and be much more. I deliver to you an opportunity to develop yourselves through these facilities being commissioned today. As your Senator, I do not take your trust which you repose in me lightly. I remain dedicated and committed to serving the people of Lagos East and with your continuous support I do believe that together we still have so much more to achieve.”
