Okowa to launch YAGEP rice production

Delta State government is set to launched 42-hectare Deghele Cluster Rice Farming and the 54-hectare Cluster Rice Farming in Mbiri, under the state’s Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP).

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, said the rice from the cluster farms would not be sold until they have been milled, processed and packaged.

Chief Job Creation Officer (CJCO) of the state, Prof. Eric Eboh, who represented the governor during the inspection tour of the farms at Deghele, Ugbokodo-Okpe and the state’s Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) in Sapele, yesterday said that since there was shortage in rice production in the country, ready market was awaiting the YAGEP rice.

According to him, the governor has succeeded in harnessing the fertile agricultural landscape to develop the state, create wealth and job for the teeming unemployed graduates and youths in the state. He explained that through the clusters approach, he noted that the superiority of agricultural practice for sustainable commercial farming had been effective in the state, saying: “We are already milling rice in the state.

We will process and package it to be launched. It will end up at the government conference table, where it will be served for governors and captains of industries, and declared open to be exported to other countries for consumption.”
