PDP targets aggrieved APC members

…extends sale of nomination forms


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has, again, extended the sale of its nomination forms to September 17. It has also extended the submission of completed nomination forms to September 18.


This is the second time the party was extending the sale of its nomination forms. PDP had earlier extended the sale of its nomination forms from September 6 to 10. However, the October 5 and 6 presidential primary election still remains unchanged. A statement from the National Organising Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd) yesterday, did not give reason for the extension.


As at Monday, about 12 presidential and 120 governorship aspirants have bought the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms.


The extension of sale of nomination forms by one week might not be unconnected with alleged planned defection of some aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, had last week, said the party was expecting six APC governors and 27 National Assembly members, into its fold. Various chapters of the ruling party are divided over the mode of electing its candidates for the 2019 general elections.
