Plateau electoral commission fix October 10 for LG poll

The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has fixed 10th October 2018 for the conduct of Local Government Councils election in the State.

PLASIEC Chairman in the State Hon. Fabian Ntung while briefing Journalists at the PLASIEC Headquarters on Tuesday in Jos said the elections will be conducted in 13 Local Government Councils out of the 17 LGCs due to security challenges.

New Telegraph reports that the four Local Government which elections will not hold are all from the Northern Zone of the state and also PDP stronghold, to include Barkin Kadi, Riyom, Jos South and Jos North LGCs respectively.

Ntung while assuring the People of Plateau State of PLASIEC determination to deliver a free, fair and credible election, appeals for understanding and cooperation towards the successful conduct of the elections.

“The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) wishes to inform the general public and all the stakeholders in the Political process in the state that, following security clearance, the hitherto postponed Local government council elections will now hold on 13 of the 17 Local government Areas of the state on Wednesday 10th October, 2018”.

“The Local government Areas where the elections will hold include Bassa, Bokkos, Jos East, Kanam, Kanke, Langtang North, Langtang South, Mangu, Mikang, Pankshin, Qua’anPan, Shendam and Wase”.

The Chairman disclose that for the Local government Councils where elections will not hold the commission will announce a new date as soon as the necessary clearance is obtained.

It would be recalled that on the 5th February 2018 the PLASIEC had Postponed the Local Government Polls in the State earlier slated for 17th February 2018 citing security report
Which was not conducive for the conduct of elections as the reason for the postponement.

However, New Telegraph reliably gathered that the four local government that the elections will not hold are dominated by the Berom tribes who have suffered incessant attacks by the Fulani herdsmen and also the stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party in the State as well as where the Former Governor of the State Senator Jonah Jang comes from.
