Raid on Clark’s home: Group commends IG for taking prompt action

A Niger Delta group, the Niger Delta Peace and Environmental Rights Advocate has commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris for being prompt and proactive in taking decisive step to reprimand those involved in the illegal raid of the residence of elder statesman, Chief E. K. Clark.

The group, led by Sheriff Mulade, described the prompt action of the police chief as a welcome development to restore public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police, challenging the Force on the need to respect the rights of the people.

He said: “I want to strongly express my appreciation to the IG, Idris for distancing the most respected security outfit from this ugly menace and urged him to deal decisively with the perpetrators because if the likes of 92-year-old Pa Clark could be harassed, humiliated and embarrassed that tells us how innocent Nigerians are suffering in the hands of our police.”

The group also advised the Niger Delta ex-militants, who threatened to resume hostilities in the region to abort their plans, saying the region did not deserve such actions with their negative effects on the environment.

He cautioned the exmilitants not to take laws into their hands under the disguise of the illegal raid on Pa Edwin Clark residence in Abuja and appealed to Niger Delta people to accept the apology from the IG in the interest of peace and unity in the country
