IDRIS SALISU reports that Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima, a former governor of Zamfara State, who presently represents Zamfara West in the Senate, has offered to relinquish the seat for his political godson, Governor Abdul’azeez Yari as reward for his loyalty
In Zamfara State, Governor Abdul’azeez Yari is eyeing Zamfara West senatorial district seat presently occupied by a former governor of the state, Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima. But there are strong indications that the former governor may step down to pave way for Governor Yari to join the league of ex-governors in the state come 2019.
The two political gladiators in the state hail from Zamfara West senatorial sistrict and according to information gathered by New Telegraph, the reason why Yerima is forfeiting the senatorial position to Governor Yari is as a result of loyalty and respect he enjoys from the governor.
Since Yari became the state governor in 2011, there has never been any rancor between him and Yerima. New Telegraph findings revealed that though the arrangement over the senatorial slot between the two remains secret, it will however become clear any moment from now, as who will run for the Zamfara West seat in the 2019 election would be made public. A reliable source, who is close to the two politicians, told New Telegraph that Senator Yerima has made it known to some individuals that he will step down for Governor Yari to run for the senatorial seat. According to the source, Yerima has once said he had been elected senator representing his district at the National Assembly for three consecutive terms and has achieved marvelously to develop both the senatorial district and the state in general.
When contacted, the Special Assistant to Senator Yerima on Media, Junaidu Attahiru Dosara, confirmed that Yerima had already step down for Governor Yari to represent Zamfara West Senatorial zone at the National Assembly in the Ninth Senate on the platform of the ruling APC. “The former governor and political leader of Zamfara, Ahmed Sani Yerima, has conceded to Governor Abdul’azeez Yari the senatorial ticket to contest in the next 2019 general elections and represent the zone in the National Assembly,” he said.
