- Fish out killers, Fayemi tells police
Gunmen, believed to be assassins, on Wednesday night murdered the treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Moses Adeoye. The assailants invaded Adeoye’s house at Otun-Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area while he was taking dinner. They reportedly shot him in the presence of his family members. Adeoye was the former chairman of the APC in the local government before he recently emerged as the state treasurer of the party. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Caleb Ikechukwu, who confirmed the incident, said the police had launched investigation into the case. He said: “The case has already been reported with the police and our men have swung into action. “We have started our investigation to make sure the perpetrators are arrested.
“We commiserate with his family and assured the people of Ekiti State that the police are on top of this matter.” The state APC Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ade Ajayi, described the incident as “sad.” Ajayi said the deceased was on the entourage during Governor Kayode Fayemi’s ‘Thank You’ visits to Ekiti North and South Senatorial Districts in Ido and Ikere-Ekiti on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the state chapter of APC yesterday paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, the local government party executives and members in Otun-Ekiti. In a statement yesterday, Ajayi said the state Chairman of the party, Mr. Paul Omotoso (a lawyer), expressed shock and sadness over Adeoye’s murder.
The chairman added that none of his members was safe because it could happen to any of them. Omotoso described the late Adeoye as a responsible, honest, agile and committed party man. He prayed that such would not happen again. The chairman described the incident as a terrible blow to Governor Kayode Fayemi, APC, party members and particularly the people of Moba.
He promised that the case would be investigated and the perpetrators would be brought to book. The APC Chairman in Moba Local Government Area, Mr. Femi Adeyeye, described Adeoye’s killing as a rude shock to all APC members and people in the community. Meanwhile, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Yinka Oyebode, the governor vowed to get to the root of the matter, stressing that anyone found to be connected in one way or the other with the killing would be dealt with decisively. Fayemi said his administration would work with security agencies to put an end to the spate of assassination and violence in the state.
