The gale of defection in the House of Representatives returned as three members of the lower chamber changed party platform.
While two members dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one member left the PDP for Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Chairman of the House committee on rules and business, Hon. Emmanuel Yisa Orker-Jev representing Buruku federal constituency of Benue state formally announced his defection from the ll Progressives Congress (APC) to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Similarly, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja who represents Ondo east/west federal constituency of Ondo state dumped the PDP for the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Hon. Olatoye Temitope representing Lagelu / Akinyele federal constituency of Oyo State dropped the APC and crossed over to the Action Democratic Party (ADP).
Both members also announced their defection on the floor during plenary.
Announcing his defection, Hon. Orker-Jev, who had resigned from the APC on July 24th without declaring for a new platform said “on the 24th of July, 2018 during plenary, I announced resignation of membership of All Progressives Congress (APC). I said then that I would make my next step known after due consultation with my people the consultations took place and I registered my membership with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the 4th of August, 2018.
“My dear colleagues soon thereafter while we were on recess, his withdrawal from the APC but however did not move to any political party. The defection of the duo is the first since the House resumed from a two-month recess.
“My new party, the PDP has graciously nominated me as their senatorial candidate for the Benue North West senatorial district. I wish Mr. Speaker, my honourable colleagues, and indeed the National Assembly bureaucracy to take note”
It will be recalled that 37 members of the House had on July 24, 2018 dumped the ruling APC to the PDP and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Speaker Yakubu Dogara, who defected from the APC to PDP is yet to formally inform his colleagues on the floor.
