- Police invite lawmaker for questioning
Hell was let loose on Wednesday at Obanikoro area of Lagos State when two members of rival cult groups were killed during a fight over a N500,000 largesse. The money was reportedly given to the cult members by a member of the House of Representatives. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, gave the name of the House of Representatives member as Hon. Ademorin Kuye. Oti also said Kuye had been invited by the police for questioning. Those killed are identified as Ibrahim Oriyomi Balogun aka Small Jepron said to be an Eiye member and Solomon, who belonged to Aiye. The cultists, who also acted as political thugs, according to the police, were invited by the House of Representatives member.
T hey reportedly converged on Home Touch Hotel where the unfortunate incident occurred about 5p.m. The N500,000 was handed over to Japron, who was the leader of the Eiye. But Solomon and his Aiye members were not happy with what the politician did by given the money to Japron. To the surprise of everyone at the gathering, including the politician, the two cult groups started fighting.
Before the politician knew what was happening, someone from the Aiye group identified as Biola Don was alleged to have shot Japron in the stomach. Immediately after Japron was killed, there was commotion in the hotel as everyone was running helter-skelter. Angered by Japron’s death, his colleagues chased Solomon aka Solo to Bakare Avenue and dragged him out a tricycle he was escaping in. They asked him to lie on the ground before they smashed his head with stones. When our correspondent visited the scene, the blood stains were still on the spot where Solomon was killed. A resident, Mr. Ajibola Ismaila, described the killing as unfortunate one. He said: “I was in my workshop about 5.30p.m., when I saw a multitude of youths running after a tricycle.
They were shouting that the person in the tricycle had killed someone. Suddenly, the driver of the tricycle was stopped and they dragged their target out. They asked him to lie on the ground before they smashed his head with the stones they were holding. “It was when we came back that we knew that the person they killed was called Solomon. When they were attacking him, nobody in the neighbourhood could wait to see what was happening. However, policemen from Pedro Police Station later came to evacuate his remains.” The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident. He said: “On Wednesday, about 5.17p.m., the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Pedro Police Station received a call that two persons, later identified as Ibrahim aka Small Japron and Solo, were killed at a political gathering organised by Hon. Ademorin Kuye at a hotel called Home Touch, situated at No. 228, Ikorodu Road by Obanikoro Way.”
The PPRO added that the deceased had involved in several cult clashes and they were on the wanted list of the police for leading several cult fights in the Shomolu, Bariga, Fadeyi and Ojuelegba areas of the state. He said: “The deceased were trailed to the gathering by a rival cult group who invaded the arena and began to attack people.
The fight was, however, brought to an end by the police who arrived quickly at the scene and made some arrests. “Unfortunately, the notorious cultists, Ibrahim (aka Japron) and Solo, later died as a result of injuries they sustained during the fight.” “It would be recalled that the command had on September 10, 2018, warned politicians not to gather in public places without notifying it to enable adequate provision of security and prevent hoodlums from hijacking such events. Regrettably, the host of the political meeting, Hon. Ademorin Kuye, did not inform the police of his intention to host his supporters.” Oti disclosed that 21 persons had so far been arrested in connection with the murder and they were currently being questioned by homicide detectives of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba. “Also invited to Panti is Hon. Ademorin Kuye for questioning,” he said.
