PCN seals 343 medicine vendors in Kebbi

The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 343 medicine vendors for various offences in Kebbi State. Addressing journalists yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, the council’s Director in charge of Inspection and Monitoring, Mrs. Anthonia Aruya, said they were on inspection tours in order to checkmate the irregularities among their members and vendors across the country.

She explained further that a total of 518 premises were visited comprising 20 pharmacies and 498 patent and proprietary medicine vendors. The director added that the sealed pharmacies and vendors’ businesses was done based on various offences ranging from improper handling of controlled substance, unhygienic environment, poor documentation and dispensing of ethical and prescription drugs without the presence of a pharmacist.

“This is the first phase of activities of the PCN geared at streamlining the drugs distribution system in Kebbi State, further action will follow in due course since the PCN is committed to the provision of good pharmaceutical services to the good people of Kebbi State,” she added. Aruya said PCN was a Federal Government parastatal charged with the responsibility of regulating the education, training and practice of pharmacy in all aspects and ramifications as established by Decree 91 of 1992, now pharmacist Council of Nigeria Act cap p17, LFN, 2004.
