Eighteen members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) yesterday escaped death as a bus they were travelling in exploded on their way from the Orientation Camp at Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. New Telegraph learnt that 12 of the corps members who are female were revived by pouring water on them as they fainted when fire engulfed the bus. It took the gallantry of the six male corpers before their female counterparts were ferried from the bus. The bus was heading to Warri after the orientation exercise.
One of the tyres was said to have exploded, bursting into flames and trapped the corpers before rescue came from public spirited persons who were traveling along the route. No life was lost. The state NYSC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chidi Nnorom said, ‘’we thank God no life lost.” Elder Jonathan Akpomiemie who witnessed the occurrence said, “the bus was carrying only Youth Corps members.
It exploded on its way from their Orientation Camp at Issele-Uku. The illfated bus burnt beyond recognition.’’ He said although none of them died, the female folk among them suffered shock and bruises in a desperate bid to escape the sudden fire outbreak. He lamented that their personal belongings including phones, jewelries, shoes, cash, bag and baggages, were burnt beyond recognition.
