Hajj 2017: Kano gets highest slot as FG shares Nigeria’s 95,000 quota

Kano state has secured the highest number of seats for the 2017 Hajj from Nigeria as the Federal Government shared Nigeria’s 95, 000 quota to states.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), which revealed this in a a document also promised to, with the mercy of Allah, make this year’s Hajj best ever in the anal of Nigeria.

The NAHCON, an agency in the Presidency, checks showed allocated a total 95,000 seats to the State Pilgrims Welfare Boards/Agencies/ Commissions (SPWB), the Armed Forces and the Private Tour Operators for the 2017 Hajj exercise.

Kano State, the NAHCON document read, got the highest allocation of 6,602 while Imo State got 47 as the least among the states.

The document revealed that Abia state got 62; Adamawa state received 2,097: Akwa Ibom got 60, Anambra secured 63, while Bauchi state got 3,213 slots.

Others are Bayelsa, which secured 81 slots; Benue state got 390; Borno 2,786, and Cross River got 60. The list also include Delta state, which secured 107 slots: Ebonyi state got 97 slots: Edo state had 294; Ekiti state got 209 slots, Enugu state had 65 slots, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) got 2,657 slots; Gombe secured 2,205 slots and Jigawa state got 2,677 slots.

For Kaduna state, the allocation was 6,327 seats, Katsina got 4,930 seats; Kebbi secured 4,629 seats; Kogi state had 838, while Kwara state received 2,164 seats.

Lagos state got the highest number of seats from states in the South with 3,957 slots; higher than Nasarawa state, which got 1,860 seats; Niger state had 3,604 seats; Ogun state got 1,353 seats, Ondo state had 302 seats; Osun state was given 917 seats; Oyo state got 1,363 slots; Plateau state secured 1,348   seats; Rivers state got 375 seats; Sokoto state had 5,571 seats; Taraba state received 1,457 seats, Yobe state got 2,256 and Zamfara state had 4,496 seats.

The document also showed that the Armed Forces got 497 seats while the Tour Operators got 20,000 seats. Nigeria, it would be recalled, hitherto had a total of 76, 000 seats for so many years uptill 2016.

This quota was increased by the kingdom of Saudi Arabia due to the expansion of the Grand Mosque at theholy city of Mecca to restore the 20 percent global cut.

Following this move, Nigeria got 95, 000 seats for the 2017 exercise.
