Controversy trails attack on Innoson motor’s lawyer

Controversy is now trailing the attack on Prof. McCarthy Mbadugha, who is a lawyer to the Chairman, Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited, Innocent Chukwuma, with his family screaming assassination attempt.
Mbadugha was attacked in his office at Lekki Phase 1 on October 14.
A family source alleged that the attackers were assassins, but the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed the attack, said Mbadugha’s security guards, who he owed salaries, carried out the attack.
Since the attack, Mbadugha had been at an undisclosed hospital, battling to stay alive.
A family member, who wished to remain anonymous, said on the fateful day of the attack, Mbadugha had gone to his office and was attacked right there about 3p.m.
He was just about to settle down when a stranger, armed with a gun, allegedly sauntered into his office, threatening to shoot him.
“Mbadugha offered the assailant money and promised to cooperate, begging him not to harm him. The man tried thrice to shoot the gun, but thrice the gun refused to fire. The gunman called out to another man outside the room. The men claimed to be armed robbers and had come to snuff out the life of the prof,” the family source added.
It was learnt that the second man brought out a dagger and descended on the lawyer. Mbadugha screamed for help. He was stabbed in his abdomen, right hand, head, and the back.
The men were said to have left him in a pool of blood, but made away with his laptop.
“Mbadugha managed to stagger out of his office and called passers-by to take him to hospital. A resident, who drove him to hospital, said he saw two men running away and had pursued them. He and other neighbours got one of the men and dragged him to the Maroko Police Station. We heard he had been transferred to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Ikeja, Lagos,” said the family source.
Reacting to the assassination allegation from family member, Oti said: “The victim was attacked by security staff of his area who, we understand, are being owed months of unpaid salaries. Investigation is ongoing, while police are on the heels of the attackers. But a few had been arrested.”
Mbadugha, it was learnt, entered into a contract with Strong City Security Services Nigeria Limited to be providing his law firm with security services, at agreed monthly fees. Mbadugha reportedly used to pay the security company directly, while the company pays the guards.
“He never owed the company any money and had no issue with it. He usually issues a cheque and hands it over to Mr Oboh Sunny – the company’s operations manager,” said the victim’s family member.
The arrested suspect was allegedly in possession of Mbadugha’s Apple Laptop, IPhone 6s, a bag containing his cheque books and other documents.
