New Telegraph award: It‘ll spur me to work harder, says Shaffy Bello

Nollywood actress, Shaffy Bello-Akinrimisi, has reacted with joy to her selection as one of the recipients of the New Telegraph Awards 2018, saying the award would spur her to work even harder.The actress, who has dazzled in some of the best movies released in the last few years including Lara and the Beat, Hire a Man, Discontent, Gbomo Gbomo Express, Ovy’s Voice among others, will receive the Best Actress of The Year award at New Telegraph Awards on November 17. In her Letter of Acceptance, Mrs Bello-Akinrimisi said: “I received news of my selection as Actress of The Year from New Telegraph Newspapers with great pleasure and I write to formally accept the award.

“I am humbled by this recognition of my Godgiven talent and modest contribution to my industry. It is an indication of the appreciation of my craft and one that will definitely motivate me to do more and work harder.” Speaking further especially on what makes this particular honour unique, she added: “Moreover, this honour is coming from a platform like New Telegraph that went home with eight awards at the NMMA in 2017 and a plethora of other awards in the Nigerian media space less than 4 years after its debut. “I wish to express my appreciation to the management of Daily Telegraph Publishing Limited as I look forward to Nov. 17, 2018.”

Some of the nominees, who had so far accepted the award, include some state governors. Sokoto State Governor, Rt Honourable Aminu Tambuwal, nominated as Man of the Year, described the award as an encouraging initiative, while Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State (Good Governance) also said the award would compel him to do more for the state. Others are Ebonyi State Governor, Dr. Dave Umahi, Governor of the Year (Agriculture, Road Infrastructure and Youth Empowerment) and his Kwara State counterpart, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Governor of the Year (Youth Empowerment).

In his acceptance letter, Umahi, who said the award would bring out the best in him, acknowledged with utmost sincerity and humility the great honour bestowed on him. On his part, Ahmed also expressed joy over the recognition, saying the award would spur him to do more for the state. Ahmed said he was elated and grateful to the New Telegraph family for the award. Other awardees, who have expressed gratitude include ex-Chairman, Punch Nigeria Limited, Chief Ajibola Ogunshola, nominated as Media Icon (Print) as well as the Chairman Emeritus, Daar Communications Plc, High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi, Media Icon of the Year (Broadcast). Other nominees for recognition include Chairman, BUA Group Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, who also emerged as Man of the Year; a former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Political Icon of the Decade, while Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is Politician of the Year.

In the same vein, Chief Dan Chukwudozie of Dozzy Group is the Businessman of the Year, while two ministers – Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi – stand out in performance. Fashola, the immediate past Governor of Lagos State and current Minister of Works, Power and Housing, bags the Most Outstanding Public Servant of the Year.

Amaechi, a former Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation, is the Most Outstanding Minister of the Year. Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Nsima Ekere, got the Corporate Leadership Award back to back. Other governors slated for honours are Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, emerged Governor of the Year in Human Capital Development and Infrastructure. Governor of Kano State, Dr. Umar Ganduje, emerged Governor of the Year in Health and Education. Ganduje won the same award in 2017.
