Nwaoboshi’s trial over N322m fraud starts afresh

The trial of a Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Nwaoboshi, over alleged N322 million fraud yesterday commenced afresh before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of a Federal High Court in Lagos. He was first arraigned before Justice Mohammed Idris (now of the Court of Appeal) by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside two firms; Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd over the alleged offence on April 25, 2018.

The case file was however transferred to Justice Aneke upon the elevation of Justice Idris to the Appellate court following which the senator was re-arraigned on October 5, 2018. Testifying on Tuesday at the resumption of Nwaoboshi’s trial, an anticorruption activist and real estate manager, Prince Kpokpogri, said he wrote the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking an enquiry into Nwaoboshi’s activities after receiving some documents from an unknown source.

He said that sometimes in 2016, he received an anonymous call, in which the caller informed him that he had some documents for him, which he left in front of his office door.

He claimed that he had to seek further probe of Senator Nwaoboshi by the anti-graft agency after reading the contents of the documents.
