Women World Cup: NFF meets with UEFA over friendlies for Falcons

…approves Dennerby’s programme

The Super Falcons will play grade A friendly matches with top European countries as the Nigeria Football Federation boss, Amaju Pinnick, meets with the President of European Union Football Association, Aleksander Ceferin, with a view to securing games for the AWCON champions.

The Falcons did not play a single friendly game ahead of their African Women Cup of Nations campaign as poor preparation dogged their build up to the tournament.

However, Pinnick assured it would be a different situation as they had already approved the programme of the Head Coach Thomas Dennerby for the World Cup.

“We are already working with the coach who has submitted his plans for the World Cup to us. Also, I am talking to some European Federation presidents and the President of UEFA Ceferin, to secure friendly matches for the team in preparation for the World Cup,” he said.
He has also promised players and officials of the Super Falcons quality rewards following their triumph at the 2018 AWCON.

Pinnick stated this on Wednesday during a visit to the team in Abuja adding he cannot stop praising the team for their determination and resourcefulness which aided them to their ninth continental title in Ghana. He, however, disclosed that the team should be patient as the federation was waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari to open the floor of reception for the team.

The NFF helmsman described the Falcons as one of the most accomplished teams in world football, which have seen many people queuing to reward them but pointed they had to be cautious not to jump the gun ahead of the country’s leader.

Pinnick, who is also first vice-president of Confederation of African Football, further disclosed that some NFF partners and sponsors, as well as state governors also want to host the champions.
“We can’t thank our father, President Buhari, enough for his immense support to Nigerian Football.

“The President is really happy for what you have done which has never been done by any women national team.”

“Our sponsors are also lining up to host and honour you, as well as some state governors, who have indicated their interest in hosting you, but all that will be after the President hosts you,” he added.
