Ohanaeze suspends secretary in Ondo

A major crisis broke out within the apex Igbo cultural association, Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Ondo State yesterday as the state chapter of the group suspended its Secretary, Prince Uche Erondu over issues relating to handling of funds. At a bi-monthly meeting held at Ileluji in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of the state, the group also set up a seven-man panel to investigate him.

 

The group in a statement said it also suspended the embattled Secretary for alleged gross violation of the group’s constitution. However, Erondu denied the allegation of misappropriation of fund and violation of the constitution of the group leveled against him.

 

Pointedly, he said those who allegedly suspended him did not have such power under the law to do so. He said he remained the Secretary of   Ohanaeze in Ondo State.

 

However, Ohanaeze in a statement said a seven man panel led by Mr. Peter Anyanwu was set up to investigate the secretary’s misdeed while Mr. Chris Ezea was appointed Acting Secretary pending the outcome of the investigations. The statement advised the public not to have any transaction with Prince Uche Erondu on behalf of the Ohanaeze Ondo State Chapter henceforth until he is discharge or otherwise.

 

Meanwhile, state chairman of Ohanaeze, Chief Inno-Chuks Ezechiefoh commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his laudable projects across the length and breath of state. He appreciated the governor for attending the last Igbo day celebration in the state and commiserated with him on the exit of a teacher of law, the Olowo of Owo and prayed for the repose of his soul.
