Students of the Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, have been warned by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yohanna Daniel Izam to shun cultism, examination malpractice and other anti-social behaviour, but to be disciplined and dedicated to their studies in line with the university’s rules and regulations.

The advised was given during the matriculation and oath taking ceremony of fresh students admitted into the institution for the 2018/2019 academic session, where no fewer than 1,325 students undertook the oath of allegiance. “I urge you to distance yourselves from joining any association, group or society whose motives are in conflict with accepted societal norms and values throughout the duration of your studies,” the Vice- Chancellor said, warning that the university frowned at and would not hesitate to penalise any student who indulged in cult activities, examination malpractice or any form of anti-social or deviant behaviour such as phone snatching, burglary and theft, indecent dressing and other forms of misdemeanour.

He further disclosed that the university sanctioned 20 students last session for indiscipline and involvement in various forms of examination malpractice, insisting that the university would not rest on its oars until its examination processes and other affairs are properly sanitised. Izam also noted that the university had secured full accreditation of 15 out 17 academic programmes offered by the institution.

“Last year, the university presented 15 of its 17 academic programmes for accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The fallout of the exercise has given 15 of the courses full accreditation, while two others were accorded interim accreditation status,” he said. He noted that the university would consolidate on it gains and focus on the introduction of more courses as a way of expanding the institution and making it globally competitive.
