How B’Bafana stopped me – Ighalo

Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has said South Africa did well to contain him in their quarter-final clash but that tactics hurt the Bafana Bafana at the end as they fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Ighalo who is still one of the leading contenders for the Golden Shoe with three goals, hardly had a sniff throughout the encounter but he told our correspondent that he was happy that allowed the wingers to create chances as Nigeria won at the end of the day.

“It was very difficult because if you see the way the defenders were playing, they had about three, four players on me but they created room for Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze to operate, they said it that they were going to cage me but at the end we got the goals and won the match which is most important,” the China-based striker said.

He said despite the victory, the Eagles regarded South Africa as one of the toughest opponents in the competition because Bafana Bafana made the encounter so difficult for them to win.

He praised the Egyptians for supporting Nigeria and urged the locals to keep staying behind them in the course of the competition.

“We are happy they (Egyptians) supported us today and we want them to come and support us again, we feel at home, you can see the stadium today.

“I am very happy, it was a very difficult one but at the end we are in the semi-finals, which is the most important thing. Now, we are getting set for our semi-final match before we talk about the final, we are ready,” he said.
