Timi Dakolo: Soft-spoken vocalist

Timi Dakolo is a singer, songwriter and soulful performer. He has been called ‘The Voice’ and has been dubbed Nigeria’s King of soul. Timi Dakolo shot to stardom when he emerged winner of the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007.

 

With his victory, he got a recording contract with Sony BMG, in addition to other prizes. Timi Dakolo was born in Accra, Ghana to a Nigerian father, Bayelsa- native, David and a Ghanaian mother, Norah, who died when Dakolo was thirteen.

 

Before going to Idols West Africa, Timi was a student of Communication Studies in the University of Port Harcourt. His big break however came in 2007 when he auditioned for the reality show Idols West Africa in Calabar, Cross Rivers and went on to win the competition.

 

Since then, he has been breaking new grounds in the music world. Timi is a cool guy who loves to been seen on red carpet in either casuals or all dressed up in suit and bow tie for special events. He is happily married to the love of his life, Busola and they have three beautiful children together.

 

Dakolo’s hot single, ‘Iyawo mi’ was dedicated to his wife. Timi and his wife have been in the news recently when Busola ann o u n c e d that she was raped at 17 by Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and Timi is doggedly standing by his wife in this ordeal as the news continued to make a lot of buzz on social media.
